When I saw the prompt from HiveGhana - I thought hmm – is this a sign for me to get my act together. This topic regarding achieving my Hive goals was already on my mind the last few days. Why? I've not written for a while and it made me consider whether I was serious or whether I lost sight of my own goals on this journey?

snowy walking path Aalsmeer - winter 2022

The Start
My first HPUD post was on July 1, 2023. I decided to participate in order to be more methodical about writing posts and having something to aim for. As I am very busy offline, I needed to set goals in order to be able to have some structure. As the saying goes,

What gets measured gets done, what gets measured and fed back gets done well, what gets rewarded gets repeated. JOHN E. JONES

Therefore, I set my goal(s) in order to be focused as I can see how I am doing and improve based on the monthly results. In the July post - my HP was 5,580.83 - today it is 7,282.75. As a result, I am not far from my goal of 7,500 HP – only 217.35 HP to go. Still work needs to be done.

Challenges
Having not written for 11 days – things were not looking great regarding my goals. My offline life changed and became very demanding. I was presented with circumstances which were certainly beyond my control but I had to attend to them. My time and attention were required. Priorities changed and the first thing to stop were my hobbies – hence no blogging.

Goal setting
One must -

expect the unexpected

It is part of the flavour of life. This must be considered whilst setting goals.
Luckily, my goals were S.M.A.R.T. You can explore the principle here.
They were :

  • Specific - 7,500 HP .
  • Measureable via reports from https://hivestats.io/ etc.
  • Achievable - based on knowledge of my responsibilities (on and offline)
  • Relevant – to my HP growth goals
  • Time-bound – deadline is December 31, 2023

What will I do?
Although 217.35 HP seems easy -

If you do nothing - nothing happens.

It seems so logical doesn't it? However this is a reminder to myself. Things do not happen by magic, virtual thinking, wishful thinking or osmosis. Action is required. There is no other way but to write.

The Journey
The path or journey to success is not always smooth or easy. However, one gathers life experiences and learn valuable lessons via failure and/or challenges. As a result, the journey is also important. Setting goals – financial or otherwise – are very important as the goal becomes a guide. On this journey, to overcome the challenges encountered - we might need to involve other people (thus creating relationships) or tools to assist us whilst heading to our destination (end goal). All these factors are important as they enhance our development and personal growth.

My other Hive goals
In addition to Hive – I also have InLEO goals. I've stated in past posts that I would like to be a LION therefore having 5000 LEO. I do not have a date in any of my LPUD post – that is not so S.M.A.R.T. I will now commit to March 2024.

Thank you
I am grateful for the support I've received from all the communities and followers who kindly visit my posts. Thanks for the curation and engagement that certainly makes a difference after a post is published.

Conclusion
Life’s path is not always easy – there will always be challenges - but remaining positive and focused does a world of good when things do not go as expected. Courage to continue is paramount. The lessons learnt are just as valuable as success - when it's achieved.
