People may be reading differently rather than less.

I noticed this when I was teaching way back in the 1990s. People were howling about the kids not reading but what i found teaching ICT is that kids read plenty if it was on the screen.

Even kids that would never have picked up a textbook because it was boring would quite happily read the same material if it was on a computer.

I don't think we are entering a new dark age (it wasn't that dark)

People will read when something interests them...like this blog post. 👍
