Yesterday evening I took a walk down to the local flood protection system at Earith sluice It is quite a lovely spot and it also performs a vital function in this area.

First up my entry for #goldenhourphotography initiated by

It may not seem exactly the kind of place you would think of as beautiful from the form and function of the place but I hope you can see that this kind of engineering does have a certain beauty and charm.

Without these flood defenses this whole area would return to wetlands very quickly.

I liked this little overgrown path down to the river.
Sometimes in life we find that if something looks right. It is right. These field drains were first put in many centuries ago and have become part of the landscape.
Nature has grown up around them and now they blend in to the scenery. Without these drains this whole region of England would be under several feet of water!
