Fear is an unpleasant emotion cause by threat or a feeling that is perceived through danger. Fear can come through any means either by health challenges, in our finances, academics, businesses, marriages, trips or in our daily activities.
Many of us if not all, had been in a scary situation in one time or the other and the way we handle the situation differs.
My Scary Experience
A friend of mine was getting married when I was an undergraduate, so I'm part of her bride's maid. The wedding is slated to hold in Ogun state (southwest) Nigeria and I'm schooling at Kwara state (North central).
Informing my parents about my trip will not yield the result I needed because they will never approve my journey, so I left campus without anyone's consent, but I later informed my Elder Sis.
I told her I would leave on Thursday and return back to the campus on Sunday, because the traditional wedding is slated for Friday and the holy solemnization is on Saturday.
My journey on Thursday was smooth (it's a 6hours trip) without traffic or chaos on the road and the wedding program during the weekend went as planned, myself and my friends enjoyed ourselves to the fullest.
We bided ourselves farewell on Sunday morning around 10am after the Church Thanksgiving service and we all departed to our respective bus stations. I boarded the second bus going to Ilorin the kwara state capital and the journey started around past 11am
The first 2hours of the journey was traffic free, so I thought it will be a smooth ride just like my previous journey. Lo and behold getting to Oyo State (a state before Kwara). We encountered a traffic gridlock, we were actually stagnant for 2hours without knowing the cause, there was no alternative road.
We later discovered that a trailer that loaded crates of soft drinks had an accident (Nigerians know how those trailer drivers usually jam packed their trucks), so the road was blocked by the ministry of environment for clean up and as well to tow away the spoilt truck.
Fear started to grip me, my Sis had been calling frequently to know where I've been because she has been preventing my Parents from calling me through out the weekend. Ahhhhh Fire on the mountain, but no where to run to
Later, all drivers and passengers close to the accident scene volunteered to help in the clean up. The whole clean up took the crews 2 and half hours. I actually spent close to 5 hours before our bus can drive past the scene, it's becoming scary in the evening when it appears as if it will rain. But thank God no rain, so we left the scene around 5pm.
Getting to the hostel by past 9pm, I was exhausted and as well thankful to God that the situation was during the day. Till date I never mention the trip to my parent because I was just thinking what if the trailer and it contents had fallen on our bus how will my parent feel, and lots of thoughts coming to my mind.
I learnt a great lesson from that scary experience and it has also helped me to be truthful and open minded in whatever I do to my Parents and Siblings.
