Watercolor painting on paper.
I was at Munnar few weeks back. Tea estates all around, mist dense fog and occassional drizzle. It was a great escape from 36掳C here to 18掳C hill top. I took lot of pics this time and am planning to paint a half sheet one on it.
As a practice for that tried painting smaller size version. The first one I did was few days back which I didn't publish.
It was not that difficult for me to get the colour of tea leaves right but something is not correct about the rows... I need more practice to get that right.
This painting is mix of few pictures, the sky and evening sky based on a reference image I found online and then some trees and other elements i observed during my trip.
The sky has yellow and orange tones as base colour. I used quinacridone gold and orange for it. The clouds are mix of ultramarine blue, cobalt blue and violet. Sky moves from warm tones in left to the coller blue tones towards the right side.
The green leaves of the tea starts from yellow in well lit areas to different greens.. sap green bein predominant and then various amounts of blues to make the shades.
The hill has more of cooler pthalo green mix.
The shadows of the tea leaves and the rows in between .. all the dark tones are combined with Payne's grey violet and burnt seinna.
Overall this might have taken 40 minutes.. i had to take break in between paintings as I had to attend to my 18 month old terror at home 馃懚
