Make A Simple Of Termometer is we can using materials that are easily available in the environment, and capable of making simple thermometers based on the volume change properties of a liquid when receiving heat.
Preparation and use of medium Simple thermometer type 1
1) Manufacture
a) Materials and tools
- Glass bottle, 1 piece with size 250 cc
- Water 1 bottle that has been dyeed (suggested colorant dark color)
- Plastic hose / glass pipe 1 piece, diameter 1 mm, length 20 cm
- Plasticine to taste
- 3 colored markers (red, blue, and black)
- Hacksaw 1 piece
- Scissors 1 piece
- Hammer 1 piece
- Stingy 1 piece
- Sandpaper 1 sheet
Procedures :
- Clean the glass bottle, fill the glass bottle with water that has been dyeed.
- Plug the plastic tube / glass pipe by inserting it into the bottle until it gets into the water, then cover the mouth of the bottle with a plastic that aims to avoid air coming in, as shown below.
- Put the thermometer inside the ice cube for a while until the water surface change in the pipe is stable, the water will shrink so that the water level will decrease. Mark the water surface with a blue marker. This mark is considered a fixed bottom point.
- Place the thermometer in a hot place until the water surface changes in the pipe stable, the water will expand so that the water level will rise. Mark the water surface with a red marker. This mark is considered a fixed top point.
- Place the thermometer in the room, it will change the surface of the water in a plastic tube / glass pipe, mark the surface of the water with a black marker that shows the normal temperature (room temperature).
- Put the item to be measured using a simple type 1 thermometer, then touch it on the bottle. Perform activities with different objects.
Conclusion
A simple type-1 thermometer is based on the volume change properties of a liquid when it receives heat. By making a simple thermometer we are expected to describe the sense of temperature and measurement. The working principle of simple-type thermometer type-1 is the heat received by the bottle will be transferred to the water, the change of heat received by water results in water volume changes, so that the water surface in the glass pipe will be at certain conditions / scale.
