I previously blogged on how Porsche had become the first car manufacture to implement and successfully test blockchain in their cars.
Keeping with the theme of blockchain and the automotive industry, another exciting announcement this week comes from Blockchain-based supply chain enhancement platform VeChain who announced partnership with the german car manufacturer BMW!
So what does the VeChain and BMW Partnership Mean?
For VeChain, a brand like BMW that is the first to use VeChain blockchain is a major coup and without a doubt increase the reputation of VeChain, whilst creating a catalyst for other car manufacturers to join.
For BMW this presents the opportunity to become a leader in terms of supply chain for the automotive industry.
By leveraging the VeChain blockchain, it could enable BMW to effectively track its fleet of vehicles and car parts, to improve efficiency and profitability as well as increase trust levels due to transparency.
This announcement will no doubt have BMW's competitors to sit up and take notice and will too have to make a choice (very quickly) to either join VeChain or a similar network, in order to compete with BMW.
This is yet another great example of a traditional car manufacturer innovating with blockchain and it will be exciting to see throughout 2018, on how other car manufacturers begin to embrace blockchain technology!
