After months of wedding planning and evites sent out to 300 guests, I woke up on what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life only to receive a text from my fiancé saying he had gotten cold feet and couldn't go through with the wedding. To say I was blindsided would be an understatement. Within hours, our dream wedding turned into my worst nightmare.

As the pitying calls and casseroles poured in from would-be wedding guests, so did my fury and vengeance plotting. The public humiliation was bad enough. But wasting my time and dreams on a spineless commitmentphobe pushed me over the edge. This man needed to suffer consequences for standing me up and breaking my heart after I had invested years of my life with him. An atomic bridezilla rage awakened inside—hell hath no fury! Now that the smoke cleared, it was time for calculated retaliation.

After sobbing into crumpled wedding gown taffeta one night and polishing off a box of merlot, an idea struck. If he didn't want marriage bad enough to go through with our wedding, I'd make sure he regretted it by becoming the one who got away. I decided to launch a full-scale image makeover and revenge body overhaul.

Out went the velour workout suits and moping microwaved meals. In came a killer new wardrobe, high-end hair and makeup appointments, marathon gym sessions with a slave-driver trainer, and a registered dietician phone on speed dial. I hustled hard to build my fitness influencer brand with before-and-after selfies and clever mantras like "Lose the zeroes, get the heroes" splashed in bold font across workout videos.

Slowly but surely, the pounds peeled off and the comments rolled in. Random men—no doubt better than my flaky almost-groom—started hitting up my DMs. The ultimate cherry on top? When my ex slid into my inbox with cliché pleas for a second chance and drooling compliments on my rockin’ revenge body. Guess someone only wanted me when they saw what they were missing, eh?

Two can play that game. I decided to ramp up the torment on my unfaithful fiancé. Time to make him feel the sting of watching your soulmate find happiness without you, just like he left me crushed at the altar.

I enlisted my best friend to pose as my fake new boyfriend for perfectly angled couples’ selfies cozy dinners, beach trips and cute candid kisses all featuring my latest wardrobe splurges and bikini body showcases. My ex's increasingly desperate textstransparently begged for intel on this mystery hunk in my life. Who says jealousy can’t burn a few calories? The more he suffered, the more satisfying my transformation became.

When I had stringed him along long enough and racked up maximum Instagram followers in the process, I ghosted my panicked ex completely. Nothing screams petty vengeance like deleting and blocking someone without warning! I made sure to give one final self-esteem obliterating post announcing my hot, beefy “firefighter” boyfriend proposed after only a few blissful months together. Eat your heart out, buddy! Welcome to the taste of being unceremoniously dumped instead of doing the dumping for once.

Do I feel a smidge guilty for the web of lies and trauma I unleashed? Perhaps. Mostly I’m just giddy over this act of self-care meets sabotage. Consider it justified retaliation for emotionally wrecking and publicly embarrassing his loving bride-to-be. But more than anything, consider my post-almost-wedding glow-up a victory for showing myself my beauty, strength, and worth never depended on some flaky man's validation in the first place.

As for my almost ex-groom, last I heard the poor sap enrolled himself in intensive therapy, deleted all social media, and swore off women indefinitely. Maybe exaggerating the whirlwind proposal was a bit overkill for his fragile ego. But who leaves innocent fiancées weeping alone in white tulle without expecting them to unleash hell in response?! He had it coming, and my perfectly performed vengeance plot landed flawlessly if I may say so myself!

Who knows...his loss could be some other smart gentleman’s gain someday. For now, I’ve scored the ultimate prize through this ordeal: finally taking control of my own happiness unapologetically. And looking hotter than ever with revenge body for the ages and squad goals with my bestie turned partner-in-crime. Eat your heart out, ex-lover boy! Now excuse me while I sip this cosmopolitan poolside and make an awesome guy insanely jealous with one hair flip in a string bikini. The queen has arrived!
