Possibly, but my rather grim point is that they would ultimately starve to death, which is unfortunately the preferable option compared to the mother and all of her children to starve to death, assuming she gets to live long enough for multiple generations.

I hate saying it. I have 3 rescue cats of my own (despite my wife being allergic). But I just don't see a better option to reduce overall suffering for the mistakes of humanity =(
