I find it interesting - not in a mocking way - that people still think of the value element of this whole concept. It died ages ago. It reminds me of this old phone game I downloaded once years back that was just a shitty kind of battleship-moving-through-a-grid thing, you slowly upgrade so you can get to higher level grid.
You can chat with people there and you find there's people having played for 8 years every day, just lingering around for some reason. There's a small group in every dead system. MMORPG's long past their expiry; games from the 90's still just making enough to keep the servers alive for 12-15 individuals at any given time. I used to play FFXIV and there were people there for a decade, having completed everything possible, thousands of hours. And they'd just spend their day logged in standing around their home. Occasionally summoning a mount, then removing it. Jump onto the fence. Back to the floor. 8 hours a day of this.
There's no path forward where the price goes up again, other than the odd bump. And I'm not doommongering because it has been the appeal for me for years, knowing it will never blow up and become mainstream, it felt cosy.
The eternal decline, to me, was blatantly inevitably around the time people were discussing marketing the platform, and there were the two factions: It should advertise, and 'Hive/steem isn't a company so it's not Hive's responsibility, it's the individual platforms built on top which should advertise their product'.
This debate went around in circles and that was basically it. In short, nobody felt like they should put their money where their mouth was and start a mass, professional promotional campaign. Add that to the death of hype for BTC, and yeah.
Should probably just convert to a normal website, medium-like or substack but with a few extra functions!
