Imagine how much fun could you have if you have a Hydrogen supply with you that is never going to finish. Therefore, I am going to show you how to seperate Hydrogen and Oxygen at HOME!!!
It is very simple to do and doesn't need lots of scientific knowledge but some general idea of household items.
Things that you may need:
- Water
- Graphite(Those grey sticks inside pencils.
- Plastic container
- Rubber pipes
- Ballons
- 9V battery
- NaOH(lye) or table salt
- Copper wires
- Aluminium foils
These are things that most of you will have it at home already but anyway you can get it from local market.
- Now fill the container with water and put some lye or (salt) in it maybe, 2 tb spoons, until dissolved.
- Make two rectangular thick shape from the aluminium foil and connect each with a different copper wire using a soldering iron or something else that may work.
- Make two holes at the top of containers for wires but make sure no space is left so that the gases might not escape. Leave the aluminium foils inside container and take out the wires through the holes and seal with a tape or glue gun.
- Make two other holes for rubber pipes and also don't leave any spot open you can seal the spaces with a tape or glue gun. Also attach ballon to the end of pipes and leave the other end inside container.
- Connect wires to 9V battery.
Eureka! You will see bubbles inside water and the ballon that fills faster is hydrogen.
