I had my shutter speed set and my long 200-500mm telephoto lens ready, and as I saw this magpie start to cruise by, I was able to react without being worried about getting blurry shots. The hardest part is reminding myself to be ready, as I don't know when a bird is going to fly by, so being able to know all I have to do is keep track when they do and not have to think about my settings helps. The skies were overcast with a layer of white and it seemed to also be a fortuitous background for a bird like a magpie and this colour scheme.
