I always found the zoo was a great place, as many do, to practice photography. It can take quite a bit of patience in the wild to hope to encounter animals and to be off the beaten path for a while hoping to see something. It can happen at anytime too, so you have to be ready and be able to get good images. It takes some practice. So going to the zoo to see them all gathered in one place and learn more about their behaviors is a great way to sharpen those skills and be ready for anything you might see down the line.
