The cacti are a family of flowering plants within which the known nopales are found. This family is exclusive to America and is divided into three groups: the first includes nopales and xoconostle, both have flattened stems as rackets and produce fruits known as tunas.
The second group includes the elongated cacti, the short ones and the round ones. They present forms of barrel or candlesticks. Some of these species can live more than 500 years.
and they know about one thousand 400 species worldwide, of which 669 are Mexican. Of this total, 518 are endemic to our country.
