Sono sempre stato restio a iscrivermi a Social Media come Facebook, Istagram, Twitter e via discorrendo.. e questo perchè non ho mai visto di buon occhio la possibilità che le persone al comando di queste compagnie potessero interferire con la libertà di parola dei propri utenti.
Infatti in molti non sanno che nelle clausole che gli utenti approvano (senza neanche leggerle) quando si completa la registrazione in uno di essi, si attribuiscono ai gestori di questi Social dei diritti su quello che viene caricato (testo, immagini, video...) che nessuno sano di mente accetterebbe.
Tra le altre cose si accettano le linee guida di questi Social Media che attribuiscono agli stessi il potere di poter cancellare contenuti non ritenuti opportuni andando in un territorio ricco di sfumature su cosa sia o meno opportuno per loro.
Oppure gli concede la scelta di demonetizzare i contenuti degli autori senza dovergli dare neanche delle spiegazioni.
Non parliamo di contenuti contrari alla legge, ma di contributi scomodi che per un motivo o per l'altro finiscono nelle maglie della loro censura. Limitando enormemente la libertà di parola degli utenti.
Libertà di parola: in queste due parole viene racchiuso un significato immenso.. anni di lotte, persone morte nella battaglie per far si che la democrazia fosse un cardine delle società moderne.
Uno dei principi basilari di qualsiasi democrazia è proprio la libertà di parola, libertà della manifestazione del pensiero nelle forme che ognuno di noi ritiene più opportune.
Principio che purtroppo viene calpestato giornalmente da chi gestisce questi Social e avvallato dagli stessi utenti che ne accettano le condizioni all'atto della registrazione.
Perchè si sa.. far parte di questi Social è cool e chi se ne frega delle conseguenze!

Quindi venendo alla prima domanda che il promotore dell'iniziativa ci pone, la mia risposta secca e immediata è libertà di espressione, quindi DEMOCRAZIA!
Infatti, come ho scritto anche prima, la libertà di parola per me è uno dei principi cardine di una società basata su una vera democrazia.
E per questo motivo, la mancanza di libertà di parola per me è stato l'ostacolo a registrarmi a Facebook, Twitter, Youtube...
Di conseguenza la libertà di parola, la resistenza alla censura, è stato uno dei motivi che mi ha portato in Steem quasi tre anni fa.
Un autore è l'unico responsabile per quello che scrive e nulla deve interferire con la sua libertà di esprimersi, a costo di accettarne anche le conseguenze.
Purtroppo però gli interessi economici spesso si scontrano con questo principio perchè le verità, quelle scomode, nuociono agli affari.
E' uno dei motivi per cui credo che Social Media come Steem prima ed Hive poi, non riescano ad attirare investimenti ma è anche uno dei motivi per cui credo che sia prima di tutto necessario puntare sull'aumento del numero degli utenti puntando sul reclutamento di quelli stanchi della mancanza di libertà e della demonetizzazione dei loro contenuti.. e che poi i soldi seguiranno le masse, come è sempre successo in passato.
Ma c'è anche un altro significato di libertà di parola che mi sta molto a cuore ed è, a dire il vero, la conseguenza della libertà di espressione: la crescita personale.
Infatti poter leggere pensieri fuori dai canoni comuni, vedere un argomento da diversi punti di vista è l'unico modo per formare un pensiero critico e questo può avvenire solo se tutte le persone sono nella condizione di poter esprimere il proprio pensiero senza paura della censura.
Ancora una volta la libertà di parola è l'unico modo per cui tutto questo possa avvenire.

Do you believe Free Speech is worth saving? If yes, why do you believe it is important?
Purtroppo come tutti sappiamo, la libertà di parola è costantemente messa in pericolo dai tentativi delle compagnie di mettere a tacere le voci fuori dal coro, i pensieri scomodi e quelli che possano allontanare il business dalle loro tasche.
Ma è ostacolata anche dai politici e dai Media che cercano di veicolare i pensieri delle masse per garantirsi un consenso.
Senza libertà di parola vivremmo in una società controllata e con pensieri omologati, in cui alla fine noi siamo al pari di criceti all'interno di una ruota.
Solo che la nostra ruota è un circolo vizioso in cui noi, una passo alla volta, rinunciamo alla nostra libertà di espressione pensando di aver fatto una piccola concessione in nome dell'utilizzo gratuito di una piattaforma.. fino a non sapere più quale sia il vero significato della parola libertà perchè di fatto siamo stati privati della stessa.
L'unico modo per uscire da questo circolo vizioso, in cui noi occupiamo il posto delle marionette vittime di un sistema più grande di noi è proprio uscire da questo sistema e costruire qualcosa di unico che sia incensurabile, incontrollabile e non manipolabile.
Io penso che sia assolutamente fondamentale preservare le libertà e credo che l'unico modo per farlo, se parliamo di libertà di parola, è costruire quel qualcosa di unico che però già esiste e si chiama blockchain!
Qualsiasi cosa venga scritta resta marchiata indelebilmente sulla blockchain e qualsiasi tentativo di censura avrebbe l'effetto di un bicchiere d'acqua usato per spegnere un incendio: nessuno!
Infatti se un front end che gira su una blockchain dovesse intervenire per censurare un contenuto, lo farebbe con effetto solo sul proprio piccolo spazio mentre il contenuto sarebbe sempre presente sulla blockchain e consultabile da chiunque.
E' praticamente quello che abbiamo visto succedere in Steem, dove Steemit Inc (aka Justin Sun) sta cercando di manipolare l'intera blockchain agendo sul codice, ma avendo l'effetto di nascondere la polvere sotto il tappeto che di fatto non è visibile ma è sempre lì.
Si può dunque preservare la libertà di parola? Certo che si!
Abbiamo gli strumenti per farlo? Assolutamente si.. Hive, nocnhè l'insieme delle Dapps che vi girano, è proprio uno di essi!
Vale la pena di lottare per salvare questo principio fondamentale che attiene alla vera democrazia?
Si, vale la pena di lottare, in molti lo stanno già facendo! 3Speak è nato come alternativa a Youtube.. i vari front end di Hive nascono come alternative a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram!
E' una battaglia lunga, perchè ci sono enormi interessi economici in ballo.. ma dobbiamo tenere duro e non cedere!
Steem è caduto sotto i colpi della censura e di una dittatura.. chi davvero credeva nei principi cardine della libertà di parola e di espressione non c'ha messo più di un secondo a decidere che quello spazio non faceva più per lui e a cambiare aria.
Per fortuna dalle ceneri dello Steem che era nei nostri ideali e sorto Hive, sta a noi preservare i principi basilari su cui è stato fondato: la blockchain siamo noi... siamo noi i tutori della libertà di parola ed espressione!

Freedom of speech: in these two words there is an immense meaning .. years of struggle, people who died in the battles to make democracy a cornerstone of modern societies.
One of the basic principles of any democracy is freedom of speech, freedom of the manifestation of thought in the forms that each of us considers most appropriate.
Principle that unfortunately is trampled daily by those who manage these Social and endorsed by the same users who accept the conditions at the time of registration.
Because you know .. being part of these Social is cool and who cares about the consequences!

What does Free Speech mean to you?
So coming to the first question that the promoter of the initiative asks us, my dry and immediate answer is freedom of expression, therefore DEMOCRACY!
In fact, as I wrote earlier, free speech is for me one of the cardinal principles of a society based on true democracy.
And for this reason, the lack of freedom of speech for me was the obstacle to signing up for Facebook, Twitter, Youtube ...
Consequently, freedom of speech, resistance to censorship, was one of the reasons that brought me to Steem almost three years ago.
An author is solely responsible for what he writes and nothing must interfere with his freedom to express himself, at the cost of also accepting the consequences.
Unfortunately, however, economic interests often clash with this principle because truths, the uncomfortable ones, harm business.
It is one of the reasons why I believe that Social Media like Steem first and Hive then, cannot attract investments but it is also one of the reasons why I believe that it is first of all necessary to focus on increasing the number of users by focusing on the recruitment of those tired of the lack of freedom and demonetization of their contents .. and then money will follow the masses, as has always happened in the past.
But there is also another meaning of freedom of speech that is very close to my heart and is actually the consequence of freedom of expression: personal growth.
In fact, being able to read thoughts out of the ordinary canons, seeing a topic from different points of view is the only way to form a critical thought and this can only happen if all people are in a position to be able to express their thoughts without fear of censorship.
Once again freedom of speech is the only way this can happen.

Unfortunately, as we all know, freedom of speech is constantly endangered by the companies' attempts to silence voices out of the chorus, uncomfortable thoughts and those that can remove the business from their pockets.
But it is also hampered by politicians and the media who try to convey the thoughts of the masses to secure a consensus.
Without free speech we would live in a controlled society and with homologated thoughts, where in the end we are like hamsters inside a wheel.
Except that our wheel is a vicious circle in which we, one step at a time, give up our freedom of expression thinking that we have made a small concession in the name of the free use of a platform .. until we no longer know what the true meaning of the word freedom because in fact we have been deprived of it.
The only way to get out of this vicious circle, in which we occupy the place of the puppets victims of a bigger system than us, is to get out of this system and build something unique that is incensurable, uncontrollable and cannot be manipulated.
I think it is absolutely fundamental to preserve the freedoms and I believe that the only way to do it, if we talk about freedom of speech, is to build that unique something that already exists and is called blockchain!
Whatever is written remains indelibly marked on the blockchain and any attempt at censorship would have the effect of a glass of water used to put out a fire: nobody!
In fact, if a front end that runs on a blockchain were to intervene to censor content, it would do so with effect only on its own small space while the content would always be present on the blockchain and accessible by anyone.
This is practically what we saw happening in Steem, where Steemit Inc (aka Justin Sun) is trying to manipulate the entire blockchain by acting on the code, but having the effect of hiding the dust under the carpet which is not actually visible but it is always there.
Can freedom of speech be preserved? Of course you can!
Do we have the tools to do it? Absolutely yes .. Hive, not all the Dapps that run in it, is one of them!
Is it worth fighting to save this fundamental principle of true democracy?
Yes, it's worth fighting, many are already doing it! 3Speak was born as an alternative to Youtube .. the various Hive front ends are born as alternatives to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram!
It's a long battle, because there are huge economic interests at stake .. but we must hold on and not give in!
Steem fell under the blows of censorship and a dictatorship .. who really believed in the cardinal principles of freedom of speech and expression did not take more than a second to decide that that space was no longer for him and to change air.
Fortunately from the ashes of the Steem that was in our ideals and Hive arose, it is up to us to preserve the basic principles on which it was founded: we are the blockchain ... we are the guardians of freedom of speech and expression!
