We are programmed to believe that the more we own the more success we have achieved.

So most of us spend our lives trying to acquire more possessions so that we can show the world that we are successful, that we have done something with our lives, that we do matter.

Of course, this is all just clever brainwashing on the part of the people who make lots and lots of money off of the things we spend our whole life chasing after and squandering our wealth on.

They become very 'successful' and extremely wealthy by selling us a dream that just isn't true. Possessions do not automatically equal success. In fact, in most cases the end up equaling debt, stress, and unhappiness. Not exactly what I'd call a great life.

The possessions we own end up owning us and taking over our lives. When it's all said and done most people end up with a house full of junk they don't need or use, bills for all this stuff that they can't afford to pay, and a couple of ulcers from the stress of trying to hang on to all these pointless possessions.

But you don't have to live this way. You can stop playing the consumerism game and start living a life centered around experiences and memories rather than things. You can live a life where your hard earned wealth is used to do things to enrich you and your loved ones lives, not the pockets of the corporate fat cats.

Fewer possessions equals less stress and more money. I don't know about you but I like that equation.
