As the name suggests, these insects live on Lord Howe Island, on the border of Australia and New Zealand. This insect is a very rare insect because the number is estimated only 50 tail, with 24 new tail actually found. The Melbourne Australia Zoo is currently conducting an insect cultivation program that will be targeted to produce 9,200 of these rare unique insects.
