Well hello, stranger
And fellow adventures and antique hunters
I'm a fan of antique shops, you can always find something that triggers your interest and stuff you may have never known existed. I've seen people claiming things from the 1990s as antiques, so I guess I'm an antique myself 🤣.
We are currently on vacation in Mossel bay, and while I basically grew up here, I still enjoy sightseeing. You see something new every time in my opinion 🤷🏼♀️. So we picked a date and went on an adventure down Bland Street, I know it as "the street with all the antique shops" 😅.

Our first destination
The first Antique shop we visited is the oldest one that I remember. We used to visit it a lot when I was younger, some of the furniture in our home was lucky finds at this store!
The sign just as I remember it from all the years ago! They have re-painted it, but it's been on the left door all this time.
These giant soda bottles have also been here for a few years. They were added a few years back and are not for sale. Still, something to look at. It makes me think of Jack the Giant Slayer.
Meds anyone?
This old medical cabinet has been here ever since I can remember. It's locked and you're not allowed to buy anything in it seeing as it is a hazard. But you can admire all the remedies in the cabinet. From dental products to creams for backaches and sold herbal remedies for a common cold.
Or if you believe that alcohol cured aches and pains, some old hard liquor. You can see a tiny bottle on the second shelf from the bottom, I've been eyeing it for a while but always forget to ask to take it out.
All the little cars
There are a lot of old tiny cars in the shop. It must have been a collection that was sold or donated by someone. The cars are old some with brands I've never heard of and with food logos that we don't see anymore. Here are a few that caught my eye. The Express Dairy, when last did they deliver milk to your doorstep? The Toblerone is still some of the best chocolate and yes way better than Lindt 😅. Dinky toys and Good Year!
The bottles
This shop has always had a collection of tiny bottles, and they seem to get new stock every few years. I think I probably own 20 of these already and I'll never have enough. But where do I put all of them 😂.

Some of them are a bit pearly. I can't really tell you why but I'm assuming it's age and calcium? If anyone knows feel free to educate us!
Some random finds
The big comfy couch! I know it's small but still. It has a velvet texture with wood details. Definitely not a comfy couch, but a very formal seat for a fancy library. Maybe if I have a library one day I'll go back for it!
The giant saw. It belongs to the same giant that sold the soda bottles 😎. Jokes aside, what giant trees did they cut down with this thing?
An old record player. I grew up with one of these in my grandparents' house... So maybe I am old 😂. I wonder if it still works, seeing as records have somewhat made a re-appearance.
The tiny globe keychain. I'm assuming it was used for medication. As you can see the bottom can be removed (South Africa has moved apparently 😂). I would keep a few headache medication in it back in the day.
Old cash registers. The antique shop still uses an old cash register, the owner fixed it up and I think it fits perfectly with the shop, after all, it is an antique shop! My mother will tell you stories about these things and how hard you have to push the button for them to work. Oh how times have changed.
Our second destination
After our first adventure, we made our way down the street to the second Antique Shop, Steyn's Antiques. The shop has four Antique signs on it, three in the front and one on the side. They want people to know what they have 😂.
See all the signs 😅. Perhaps the signs are antiques as well that they found somewhere 🤷🏼♀️.
This board shows Shipwrecks between Great Brak and Gourits, some dating back to the 1500s. I wonder if you'd still be able to find something on them 😎 or the wreck itself.
Maybe these belonged to some of those shipwrecks? Jokes, they are too well kept. No idea who would buy these but they do look magical.
The trains!
Some old train toys, we had a lot when I was a kid. My grandfather loved trains and we used to build tracks with him, watching the trains go around and around for hours.
These photos are of trains that were used within the Mossel bay area many moons ago. The top photo is a bridge over the Great Brak river, that still exists today. Look at the bottom photo, all the trains are ready for the journey early morning.
We are stuck on a giant rock floating in space
There were about 10 globes in the shop. The one on the lift was old and dusty and the biggest of them all, but also the most expensive. I true antique. The other two had labels that said Made in India. While they look modern, I wouldn't mind having one. But if you buy one, you need to buy the other one... Well, that's just my opinion 😅. How do you pick between the two?
The flower tea set
Ever since I saw these I've been thinking about them. I didn't check the price, just picked them up, fell in love and left them all alone again. I think I need to go back... I've they are still there I'll have to buy them. I love tea cups and these are just perfect 😍.
Some random finds
Miniature crafts of an old telephone and gas pump. Both are made out of tin.
Want to own a classic fridge? The white one doesn't open anymore, or I'm too young to understand how to open it 😅. The blue one has a drawer at the bottom.
Traveling anywhere? Come pick up a suitcase! Extremely durable and heavy, no one will ever take your luggage.
The Simpsons record. I don't think someone will buy this for the songs, but rather the nostalgia if you watched the series as a kid/ adult.
A final oldy
I know this is not an antique shop, but it is an old building on Bland street. Felt fitting for the day and the post. It's an old antique right there in the street.
