I have been playing Splinterlands for quite some time now and have developed a special interest in collecting cards. Recently, I bought a wonderful Water element card from the marketplace with high hopes, called "djinn oshannus". I was so impressed by the card's art, stats and especially its functionality that I decided to max the card (level 4) and act accordingly.
But unfortunately, after maxing it, when I went to use this card in the game with a normal Water Splinter summoner, I encountered a strange problem. I found that despite my card being at max level (level 4), its maximum level benefits or abilities were not being activated in battle. This left me quite confused. Later, after carefully observing the rules of the game, I realized that there was actually a specific mechanic at work here that might be unknown to new or many casual players. In today's article, I will discuss my experience and the card's effectiveness in detail, so that no other player has to fall into such confusion like me.
First, let's talk a little about the general introduction of the card and its extraordinary abilities. Djinn Oshannus is a legendary water card, whose mana cost is 8. When it reaches level 4, its stats become: 3 magic attack, 5 speed, and 11 health. It can play a very powerful role in any defensive and offensive line. The reason for this is its three special abilities:
Void (level 1): Due to this ability, it receives 50% less damage from magic attacks. And if the opponent's magic attack value is 1, it does not receive any damage. It is very effective against magic-dependent opponents.
Phase (level 2): Usually magic attacks are never missed. But because of this ability, the opponent's magic attack also has a chance to miss like a normal physical attack. Since the card has a speed of 5, this ability works wonderfully.
Forcefield (Level 3): If any of the opponent's cards makes an attack that can deal 5 or more damage, Djinn Oshannus will only receive 1 damage due to this ability. This is a great defensive wall to survive against big, powerful cards.
Now let's get to the main problem—why was I not able to use this amazing card at Max Level to its full potential in battle?
There is a very important rule in the Splinterlands game that is related to the level of monster cards and summoner cards. When we bring a monster card into battle, its level will be completely effective depending on what level of summoner we are using. This means that no matter how high your monster card is, if your summoner's level is low, the monster card's level in battle will automatically be downgraded to the same level as the summoner.
Since Djinn Oshannus is a Legendary card, in order to use it in battle with level 4 or max level stats and abilities, the level of the summoner you use must also be high accordingly. According to the game rules, to get the full benefits of a level 4 Legendary monster card, your summoner's level must be in one of the following categories:
If you use a Common summoner, its level must be at least 8.
If you use a Rare summoner, its level must be at least 6.
If you use an Epic summoner, its level must be at least 5.
If you use a Legendary summoner, its level must be at least 4.
When I was playing with my normal water summoner (like level 1 or lower level Kelya Frendul or any other summoner), my Djinn Oshannus card was acting as a level 1 card in battle. Due to which I was not getting its maximum level damage or the 'Phase' and 'Forcefield' abilities of level 2 and 3.
From this experience, I realized that it is not possible to win a battle just by buying powerful monster cards or maxing them. We also need to pay equal attention to upgrading the level of our summoner cards. I hope that after reading my experience, those who have faced similar problems or were confused, will be able to understand the matter easily and plan their gameplay and card upgrades correctly.
