Strong House of Barcelona
La Casa Fuerte is a National Historic Monument of Venezuela since 1960. It is located in the city of Barcelona, which is the capital of the Anzoátegui state. Previously it was established as the Convent of San Francisco, it was also the center of the Missions of the Minor Brothers Recoletos, from where the friars left to spread the gospel through the plains of southern Venezuela. The Strong House was taken by the founders of the Republic of Venezuela in 1811 and in 1817 it was converted into a fort, by Simón Bolívar, with the purpose of defending the city from realistic attacks.
These ruins of the Casa Fuerte were never cleaned or reconstructed because they were considered a memorial of the disaster that occurred there.
