Some interesting thoughts here. If you don't mind I'd like to add some more thoughts.

As a homeschooling parent I can actually say that those two negatives are, in my opinion, myths. Socialising has never been a problem for us. The opportunities are everywhere, unless you're physically isolated, in which case it's going to be hard anyway.

My daughters are both very different and one has always struggled socially, both in schools and out, whereas the other has always taken social situations into her stride. She was actually more popular when she went back into school after homeschooling for some years than when she was in school before homeschooling. So I think it really defends on the child as to whether they will struggle going into the school system after homeschooling.

Many universities actually say that homeschooled children handle university better than most who have been through the school system, because it's more self guided learning.
