African Star Apple also known as African Cherry is a popular tropical fruit associated with the dry season. The igbo tribe call it "Agbalumo" while the my tribe, the ibibios call it "udara". It is found in the southern part of Nigeria and is common in both rural and urban areas especially during the months of December to April.
This exotic fruit has a chewable skin and is a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals, including potassium, calcium, vitamins A and C and folic acid.
It helps in weight loss as it contains fewer calories. It is a natural Anti - oxidant. It helps prevent mouth gum disease and tackles toothache and sore throat.
The seeds can be used for the treatment of vaginal and skin infections by herbal practitioners.
You can as well make juice out of it after blending and sieving especially if you have them in large quantity and you do not want them to get spoilt. That way,you can have some refrigerated until whenever needed but it shouldn't go past two days.
Thanks for engaging my blog. I hope you learnt a thing or two about the African Cherry.
