I want to reflect on a passage that has become habitual in our services but many times we do not stop to analyze its meaning and its message for us today.
It is this priestly promise of blessing that we find in the verse quoted.
This blessing given through Aaron is known as the Old Testament Our Father. And it reflects an awakening for each one of us.
The blessings of God not only mean material prosperity or well-being without difficulties, the blessing of God is manifested even in difficulties, because, often in these opportunities, we see the hand of God moving in different ways.
I bless you: it alludes to Jehovah making believers prosper who protects against harm.
Make your face shine on you: It implies favoring those who worship the Lord, treating him with mercy.
Raise your face on you: something similar to what is said in verse 25 of the same chapter, brings with it peace the provision of all the things necessary for the well-being of the human being.
Blessing is not simply a pious wish, but an active intervention, the goodness of God in action (as described in Leviticus 26, Deut 28). It conveys the concept that the presence, activity and love of God come into play in the life of a person. To bless means to invoke blessings on a person.
It is to grant, not only a gift, but also a function and to do it with a loving interest.
That is why, the greatest blessing we can receive is to have the presence of God in our lives. He was present in the furnace of fire, he was present in Gethsemane, He was present in the prison of Philippi. He can also be present today in your life.
God is specializing in blessing his people. We are blessed by a wonderful God who wants to see us blessed in all areas of our lives.
