I made a stereogram (magic eye picture) based on a 3d model of my comic characters and I think it came out very nice. Try it yourself :)
You can make your own stereograms too.
First you'll need a depth map (that's the thing on the black thumbnail in the corner of my picture) where the closer the object to you the brighter it is. Depth maps can be generated in 3d editors where your model was made or just drawn by hand.
Google for an online stereogram generator (there are lots of them and they're usually free), upload your depth map there and play with settings a bit.
