Last weekend was Mary’s ( @healthymary ) birthday and we decided to have a day out, but I took charge of organizing it. She did not know where we were going until I took the highway :D
The destination of our Trip was Ravenna, a nice and cosy historical city in the north-east of Italy, much close to the sea, where we actually went to have our lunch.
We got there and the first must-stop was a decent second breakfast. We stopped at a shop called “Grinder – Coffee Lab”. It was a much creative and aggregating café, where they had a lot of different types of coffee and I could enjoy my Americano with a bagel with peanut butter and red-fruit jam while Mary had a Cereal coffee (she does not drink coffee anymore, so healthy!) with a pistache&coconut Waffle
Here are the drinks
And the solid stuffs as well
Ravenna is a great historical city so we could not miss a couple of very nice churches and in one of them we found a fancy “Holy Water Dispenser”, that once was likely used for hand sanitizer and then got a “more holy” application.
After some history we decided to go for an extra appetizer with a traditional “Piadina Romagnola”, strictly with no meat, since both me and Mary has stopped eating meat. And here it came a Piadina, with herbs, pecorino cheese, peperoni and onions. Quite a bomb!
We took it at a traditional “Piadina shop” called “Melarancio”
The inner part of “Melarancio” was like this with a lot of nice chairs, each one carrying a traditional Motto from Romagna, that was the area where Ravenna is located (southern part of the region Emilia-Romagna, the region where I currently live).
And here is the outer lady, welcoming you in.
Afterwards the time for Lunch came, and we started going towards the sea, since I managed to find a nice, traditional and not luxurious place on the sea. Me and Mary do not like the extra-luxurious places, since we prefer traditional places, even better when they are managed from families that make you feel at home, just with another type of dishes.
The weather was not the best and it was quite rainy and windy so we could enjoy other forms of show from the restaurants, like this sea-para-gliding.
We started with a strong appetizer that we shared (like all the other dishes, since the portions were quite abundant). We had some shrimps, marinated anchovies, salted cod, and sea-salad.
Then the first course, a form of pasta called “mezzaluna”, literally “half Moon”, filled with mashed fish and a topping of a sauce made with saffron and tuna.
As a second course we decided to go for a mixed fried sea-fish with some vegetables. Very nice, not too much oily and salty, perfect for what we really appreciate the most.
And then a couple of (shared) desserts: the typical Spanish Catalan Cream and a fresh cheese cake with some red fruits and cream.
After a great lunch, we had a walk into a garden close to where we ate, and Mary could get back to the early age with a nice playing ground.
After a nice day, we headed back to Modena, since in the evening we had an operative meeting with other people, to organize activities and events for the coming months in our Yoga School. So, quite a great Sunday, and I think also Mary enjoyed it very much!
