Arcblock – The Future Of Blockchain
Hello, I’d like to bring to your attention a very exciting ICO from a company known as Arcblock.
First of all here is my video blog about how Arcblock intends to solve the current issues with blockchain amongst other things:
In this article, I’d like to concentrate on the architecture and the core components of Arcblock to give you a deeper understanding of the blockchain technology.
The Architecture Of Arcblock
Arcblock has big ambitions for the future and plans to build a platform which is extensible, scalable and easy to use for the building and deployment of decentralized blockchain applications (DAPPS)
In order to achieve these goals Arcblock has set itself a number of core principles including:
- User experience is paramount and comes above everything else
- The platforms performance is very important
One of the main ideas behind the creation of Arcblock is to make DAPPS easy for the average consumer to operate and Arcblock hopes to achieve this through the introduction of a suite of revolutionary technologies.
Arcblock – A Different Approach To Blockchain
Arcblock’s novel approach to blockchain is sure to receive a lot of attention from developers of applications. Arcblock’s open source protocol will allow applications to work on different blockchains.
The creation of Blocklet, which I touched upon briefly in the video above, is another revolutionary component that can function on serverless computing technology using any language or platform.
Blocklet represents the foundations of Arcblock and is much more than just an application protocol. Arcblock also performs the function of a software architect which will help the growth of Arcblock as a platform.
Blocklet will be accessible to everyone who wishes to build services and components. Community members of Arcblock will be compensated for their efforts with tokens, when others use their contributions.
Arcblock is the first platform of its kind to combine blockchain technology with Cloud Computing.
You may think that the use of cloud services as a node is a somewhat unusual approach, however when compared to actual physical computers they’re essentially the same. Arcblock will achieve increased performance, decentralization and greater security through using groups of cloud services and Arcblock believes that this approach will be adopted by many other companies in the future.
Arcblock can still be run in a single traditional node if preferred, which makes the platform very flexible.
Types Of Blocklet
Blocklet’s flexibility means that it is possible to develop many different types of applications. Here I will attempt to breakdown some common Blocklet types. One should note that a Blocklet may be made up of one or more of the following units.
Off-Chain Logic
Blocklet is able to access data sources separate from the blockchain as it is a native microservice. Blocklet can connect to many other data sources, such as a database. Blocklet can even be used to develop application logic that is unrelated to blockchain. Using Blocklet in this manner incurs no overheads.
On-Chain And Off-Chain Logic
Application’s business logic often requires both on-chain and off-chain handling and for the data to be connected. In circumstances such as these, Blocklet can act as a bridge, connecting on-chain and off-chain logic which can help bring the full business logic together.
Resource And Asset Handling
It is common for modern day applications to be able to handle assets and resources such as music, videos, photos and other documents. The current design of blockchain means that it cannot handle the large amounts of data to store such files. Blockchain applications usually deal with this issue by storing these assets and resources using off-chain solutions.
Whichever approach that you use to store these files, Blocklet will be able to link your assets and resource storage system together.
Smart Contracts
It is possible to implement high performance smart contracts using Blocklet and the Open Chain Access Protocol whilst simultaneously ensuring very secure transactions.
How much logic should run on-chain versus off-chain depends on the engineer’s preferences.
Oracle
Oracle is a type of smart contract that uses external data sources to trigger events. Oracle is easy to implement through Blocklet.
