It's been an exciting few weeks since my last piece about #NFTArt, and my Twitter account has been singing up a storm about genesis pieces, Foundation invites, fresh mints and - of course - the price of gas. It's all in a day's work for the NFT artists who mold and craft and color and animate the treasures we'll never touch.
I mentioned in my last post that the bigger work of critical writing is creating a context for understanding a movement, an artist or a particular work of art. This goes double when it comes to understanding a brand new art market/maker space like the Niftyscape. We can learn about how an art scene works by observing it from the outside or by immersing ourselves in it as collectors, curators or creators. Art scenes always have audiences and the perspectives of art enthusiasts who aren't actually collecting or making are always vital for understanding the who, what, how and why behind a happening creative hub.
Another tool that can yield insights into an art scene/market is data. I'm not aware of any peer-reviewed studies or published scientific polls that can give us deeper insights into the Niftyscape, but maybe Twitter has the answers? Last weekend the Nifty Table account on Twitter offered-up a great little five point snapshot of trends they found while looking at the numbers behind NFT art selling from 100K-199K. Here's the abbreviated version:
Follow Nifty Table on Twitter at the link above. The NFT art thread is pinned to their account where you can find all the fine details.
Here's one of my listings at OpenSea. This animated painting hangs in a gallery beyond time, suspended in a state of ceaseless becoming.
