Y'all! I hope you had a great weekend.
Here's a quick post to share this new triptych that I finished this morning: weird abstractions that look sort of like underwater nightmare creatures. I have no idea what to call it, but there's a kind of Lovecraftian cosmic horror leaking into this piece which I'm pretty pleased with. I also like how the overall composition is very buoyant and the reds and blues look so gorgeous together - terrible things are more interesting if they are also beautiful. Maybe the best painting is something you have to look at no matter how much you want to turn away.
I posted the work in progress last week and wanted to share the final - probably, we'll see - product here as well. Generally you enter into a conversation with work. Its says "make this yellow," "make this darker," "this should be blue." After awhile it all goes still and silent, and then you know it's "finished." Of course, then you show it to others - in a gallery, in a studio visit, online - and then they have their own conversations and the painting tells them different things and reveals different secrets, because art is a fabulous liar and a promiscuous partner that enjoys and dismisses your attention as it pleases.
Comment if it says something to you or if you see something I might have missed.
Have a great week everybody!
