The biggest weakness of my Wild collection has always been that I never upgraded my collection even to Gold League levels. My Modern collection, however, is much stronger. And this last week I splurged a bunch of DEC to finally max out several of my Chaos Legion cards.
So this season I decided to try out playing in Modern for the first time, as I think my chances of getting to Champion League for the first time, will be much higher with my more upgraded cards. I've already been able to climb from Novice to Silver 1 in just a few days, and is very happy with that.
Anyways, over to this week's challenge. This time featuring the Molten Ash Golem from the Chaos Legion set, a high health Ranged attack monster with the Close Range ability.
Strategy-wise, this monster is an excellent combination with Yodin Zaku (the summoner that gives all monsters Blast ability), with its high health and ability to attack from the first position.
The lore reveals that the Molten Ash Golem is actually the spawn of another Fire monster, the Forgotten One (an Epic card, also from the Chaos Legion set).
The Molten Ash Golems are birthed from a creature known as the Forgotten One. Created by the High Magus of the Crypteia and serving as his personal servant, the Forgotten One is a fiery beast of might and malice.
Let's just say we can be glad that we can leave the birthing of molten rock-creatures to the professionals. Cause I believe that would hurt quite a bit.
A 24 Mana battle with Heavy Hitters and Rise of the Commons rulesets.
Even if 24 mana typically is not enough mana to use the expensive 7 mana summoner Yodin Zaku, it's tempting given the challenge to use Molten Ash Golem this week.
In addition, because of the Rise of the Commons ruleset, summoners are the only Legendary cards we're allowed to use, so I guess that also speaks for using him. Oh heck, let's give it a shot.
This should be interesting:
This was an interesting battle! My opponent played well and unexpected. Their Opportunity attacks were a bit scary, and their strategic use of Reflection Shield, reduced my ability to deal splash damage, at least in the beginning.
Fortunately, my team was still able to pull through. My Chaos Agent was especially effective in the rear, given my opponent only used Melee monsters. Combined with my tank setup, it was no match for my strong ranged attacks with blast. It's never easy to go up against Yodin, that's for sure.
I'll admit it's been a while since I played in Silver League, but it's fun to have a feeling of starting over. I expect to reach Gold League in Modern by the end of the day, and hopefully Diamond by the end of next week. I'm also planning to do a more in-depth reflection post on my account progress lately, as there's been a bit of development on that front lately.
Thank you for reading, we'll see you next time :)
You may have noticed that most of the Splinterlands terms I use in these articles are also links that point to entries in the @leoglossary project. You can read more about this exciting project in one of their latest official updates, which should also give you a better understanding of why I'm putting these links in my Splinterlands articles (and why you should consider doing the same).
