I invested in a custom build large cube printer about 6 months ago. Being new to printing this was a big boy to start with, I was warned by the creator that I should start with a smaller one ect. Which...may have been helpful...but i was determined to learn the printer and make money with it.
Starting off this what she looked like when I got her home.
Now if you know printers, you will see that build space is little over a 12" which is huge!! So I was excited to get started. Not knowing what to do first I did a vase as they are pretty, tall, and quick to print.
I then went into Tinkercad.com which is a free easy to use 3d model building website and I made this online and then printed it out as a fractal of life geometric flower pot. Ended up printing different sizes that took from 30 mins to 20 hours!!!
I then printed some upgraded parts for the printer it self.
At this point I branched out to make a etsy account to see whats on the space, noticing Hemp wick lighters as opportunity to customize for people through printing a neat quick object. Charging 7$ I have sold many lighter covers now only costing me 3$ to make+ship.
For fun I decided to try out some different prints and new transparent filament.
the so awesome geometric light box!! Took a few days to get all the parts done as well a few miss prints.
This guy has a awesome story, I printed this crystal just for fun and try out the filament, keeping in my backyard. My next door neighboor i had not met yet, and one day he left me a note on my car asking not to park in front of his house. My gf at the time wanted to go give him a mouthfull of you know what. I had the thought "you know if I can get along with plants and he can get along with plants then we can both get along" (we both have decent gardens in our backyards)
So I made a note and left it for him asking to meet him next time it was free and that it was no issue. A few days later we both met in the front yard, talked for 5-10 mins then toured each others gardens and exchanged fruits. While in my backyard I handed him this crystal showing him I could print things ect.
He was instantly captured by its red glowing beauty in the sun, even loosing track of what I was saying as he stared into the crystal. Seeing he really liked it I offered it to him as token of of new found friendship, I was joyous seeing his face light up receiving this gift some one who he probably thought was more less a jerk.
My next door neighbor actually moved shortly after that experience, getting a great deal on his house he could not pass it up. As they were leaving, still only formally meeting a couple months before hand, he treated me like family giving extra items from his house for free he would have either sold or given to others. Tool boxes, garage shelf's, cordless powertools, sprinkler systems parts, Bluetooth speaker, paint, and much more.
All that stemmed most likely from the attitude of we can get along and offering a small gift at first. For something that cost me less than 2$ to print In return he gave me 100s of dollars worth things in return. You never know how far a simple gesture/gift will go/grow. Always be on the lookout to make friends, even in the darkest of places and times.
My other prints that guard the garden are these wonderful owls. These are some the biggest and longest prints I have printed and man are the beautiful.
What kind of rick and morty fan would I be without a few rick and morty prints? Which gets me thinking maybe I should do a pickle rick!!!
This right when spinners started up too so here some profit prints. Custom 3d printed fidget spinners, I was printing them at 10 cents each and putting 1$ worth of bearing in them and selling them for 4-8$ for a couple of months. It was great!!!
I ended up getting a follower who just loves cosplay and these 3d printed items so he will hit me up for custom things here and there. Here on his prints I have done for him.
Flash Gordan Helmet wings
Major Majora's Mask
A 3 Foot Rose Sword
Off of Supernatural the Tv show. The Cane and Able Bone Blade
Around this time I upgraded the printer more, I moved it out of the closet and onto a heavy sturdy end table, screwed part of it into the wall for zero shake, and added led lights for better view of parts while printing, as well as new extruder upgrading to the titan aero.
I also ended up getting then attention of very nice and fun wedding/party planner. Who loves the customization of 3d printing and the size that my printer can print. So working together with her I have been able to keep my printer printing most of the day for the past few months on these projects here.
For a 10 years olds birthday a full beauty in the beast party. This took a long time. 3 Ms potts, 20 chip, 2 castles, and many miss prints and wasted filament.
after me painting them
A dodge Challenger
A whole collection of complete alphabet 1inch think and 10inches tall. This a long one. I need multiple of certain lettles and each letter takes 5-15 hours to complete. costing 8-18$ each!!! When she told me she wanted this order I decided I better plan on getting a second printer. Because this is a couple months of work by its self right there!!!
Here where I had a issue with the castle in beauty and beast. My z jammed so the tallest tower is now just a melted blob lol This was 19 hour print haha.
As you can see I have kept this guy busy over the last half year and look forward to keeping to melting plastic. I have a 2nd even larger printer being built as I type this so look forward to seeing new prints from a new printer in the future.
3d printing is still new, yet we can see it print any number of things for any number of different reasons. I bought this for a few, to profit/make money, to be creative and make art, and to reduce cost of items I would have otherwise bought but can now print. I hope you enjoyed this post with its pics and short story! I look forward to all questions and future posts.
