You know, I was born in the Soviet Union with an atmosphere that was very friendly and supportive of the African American movement in the US and very critical of colonization and lack of rights, freedom for African Americans, and segregation and discrimination in the USA.

Yet, even there, studying history, there was very little or close to nothing about African history.

The first recollection was that Hannibal's army 200 BC was predominantly black. Then it was during the Moor's conquest of Spain about 800-900 AC. Then it already jumped to 15-century slave trading.

I read separately something about The kingdom of Great Benin roughly the territory of modern Nigeria. Beyond that, however, I have no idea about African history and African culture.
