Yeah, this example you gave is really helpful. I can look up a synonym, but there is no way for a snon-native speaker to know the emotional load given to of each synonym.

As far as grammar topics are concerned, the most difficult is the use of articles, the use of prepositions and prepositional phrases and the difference between present indefinite and present and past perfect. I am familiar with the rules, but still, am making mistakes on this all the time.
