This trade war discussions between Trump and Xi will drag on for a long time and unless the U.S. importers can find either similar or equivalent products from other countries, paying extra tariffs will become the norm if Trump continues to hike the rate up. Since U.S. is no longer China's largest trading partner (EU is first, ASEAN is second and the U.S. is third), more tariffs will hurt the Chinese GDP but not enough to create a huge impact.
