Day 51
177/252
Today the sirens went off again. But this time, it wasn't a drill. 7 small blips on the NSV, and our world was inverted. At first it didn't seem real, as everyone stood there not sure what to do. We were woefully unprepared. Our evac plan, our shield generator, our emergency ration contingencies; all inflight and unfinished. I knew it was a possibility, but part of me never really believed that someone would actually steal our resources. I know things are tough, but how can you look in the mirror knowing that you took food out of the mouths of children? My plan to head for the outskirts is sounding better all the time.
All things considered, we came out of the ordeal relatively unharmed. We had time to pull some of our U into the bunker and get our Explorers out of Dodge. No ships lost, no lives lost, but about 200 units stolen and off our books. I hope it goes melt on the way out and those bludgers get what they deserve.
Once the initial wave hit Alpha, the NSV showed another single ping headed for Beta. Same procedures, same result, lesser scale. Another 20 units gone.
I'm trying to remind myself to keep my eyes on the end goal, I'm just not exactly sure what that is anymore. Survival, yes, but surely we can do better than that. I'm not going to spend my cycles getting pillaged, I know that for sure. Next priorities are shoring up defenses.
Shields up, bunkers down, we keep on.
