I think the wolf's flaw is that he does not see his own skill. Instead of honing his own skills, he assumes he can do better by taking on the image of the shepherd. If you are a wolf, be the best wolf possible. Use all of your wolf talents. Do not imitate the shepherd because you cannot become that which you are not made to be. I appreciate the perspective that this fable has brought to me. It helps me realize that I should examine who I am and what talents and skills I have that I should hone.
