Blessing of geography. My Actifit Report Card: September 16 2024
You may have heard about floods in northern Czechia and southern Poland. I live in the south of the latter, almost exactly on the watershed between the country’s two biggest rivers which collect water from the mountains along our southern borders. One of the rivers is Wisla, the second longest in EU (1050km) after Danube. The other is Odra, again one of the biggest in EU.
And yet my area hasn’t been affected at all, if we discount local street floodngs due to clogged sewerage.
How come?
The power of geography. My region sits on the Silesia Upland - as the name suggests, it’s a high ground. In fact both Wisla and Odra bypass my home region and flow around it to the east and west, respectively, before they turn due north.
