Today’s hike included an open air museum of 19th century village. Located deep in mountains, with harsh weather and poor soils, the dwellers of the village had to find some means to survive. They turned into paddlers of crude oil products. It turned to be quite profitable market niche. Remember- talking here about mid 19th century, oil was only being introduced. Shallow deposits of crude oil were found and people learnt how to process it and make it into something useful.
