Torrox is a town divided into two parts, TorroxPueblo and Torrox Costa. The one shown in this image is the first stage of the pueblo composed of modern houses and rows of apartments still in the spanish style of architecture. Going further, the old town proper begins after the cluster of modern houses. The two parts of the town is divided by the expressway (see center of image) which had been constructed about 2 decades ago that was subsidized by the EU. The inland parts of the town known as the campo or countryside/inland have since been cultivated with mangoes, avocados and olive and almond trees . Anyone who owns land in the campo, cultivates it for the consumption of the family or sells his harvest at the local cooperative which then act as middleman and distributes the goods to supermarkets or exports them outside the country. The mountain seen in the background is part of Sierra Almijara and behind it is the province of Granada. From Torrox, it takes about an hour to drive to the center of Granada.
