Everyone knows what the word Education means but the definition may vary from each person. I was going through different thoughts on education and of course I read of different meanings of education and what it means to them. But I'll like to say there is one main thing that everyone could relate education to.
And that is.... Knowledge, Education gives knowledge... That's the main purpose of gaining education on any field or any difficulty. Knowledge to do things better are gotten from any form of education.
There are so many types of education and this is why I would agree with those that say "Education is life itself" because we can't do without education. In fact, the world has evolved from the era of people being ignorant of too many knowledge.
Why Education? Here Are My Thoughts
My mum once told me that "One thing that nobody could take or steal from you is the knowledge that you've gathered" and I totally agree with her because I've grown over the years to know so many things that still stick to my head up till date even though it took time to learn some.
So if you think education is nothing or not important, here are some importance I've learned through education.
Fulfill basic needs: The first education one gets from babyhood is what I call the basic needs, a compulsory education every person must take to grow up. We learn how to walk, talk, and even laugh until we could start learning higher stuffs. Without such education, there won't be a really sane person in this world... Every person had an education in the early age of his or her life.
Builds Character and Values: A popular saying which goes like "Charity begins at home" kind of applies to this importance of education. Except the less privileged, education was given to so many to build characters and values among children who would become adults. Even though some became a vain effort, there have also been many who affected the nation positively through this education.
Fosters Critical Thinking: I remember being curious for a lot of things while growing up because everything done by my elders seemed strange and interesting to learn. They didn't fail to kill my curiosity by teaching me what they can and sending me to school for more. Education has helped sharpen brains to think better and more critically on things.
Creates Opportunities: This is no doubt one very obvious importance of education, gaining knowledge on things opens ways for opportunities for you. Learning a skill gives a way forward when opportunity comes knocking. Imagine someone who decides to stick to what he or she knows without learning, opportunities will pass by for sure without the person even realizing it.
Interpersonal Skills: Education has brought minds together, increase communication among people and have helped to hone hidden skills in children. Back then in school, I would want to get close to those I felt were better than me because I knew I could learn faster and better from them. If I had not the educated mind to interact with them, things would have been different. Education improves communication skills indeed.
There are so many other importance of education that shouldn't be overlooked but I'll stop here and share what I do to educate myself.
My Education Style
I stay Curious: My curiosity gives me the push to learn about something, once I pick an interest, I make sure to stay curious till I'm able to learn a thing about it.
I challenge myself: I know I'm not good at something, and that is a more reason I put myself up for it like I'm good at it. I challenge myself to get better at what I think I'm worse at.
I read everyday: Even though I don't hold a book everyday to read, I read daily on the way, on my phone, I even try to read people while walking and I also read nature... I just make sure to keep my brain busy.
I go online: Thanks to technology, almost everything if not everything is online and I get to learn about whatever I want to even without asking too much questions from people. But of course I ask people with experience too to expand on my already gotten knowledge.
I share my knowledge: Yeah, thanks to Hive, I'm able to improve my education by sharing what I know and I'm good at through writing. Even in my school, I try to chat with friends about our courses and I get to learn from them that way too.
That's it about what I think and do in educating myself, @mamun123456 said something in his post titled There Is No Age For Education
In fact, there is no end to life learning. Education is a thing that plays a very important role in your every step of the way.
And I agree with him totally, there no limit to educating oneself. We learn everyday and each day comes with its new challenge which our past knowledge help us overcome. Let's not stop educating ourselves.
This is my entry for the DCC contest and you are invited to participate.
