I don't know if this would mean I'm giving out too much about my country but it does make me feel good, feels like I'm very proud of my country and willing to tell the world that I'm a proud Nigerian 😏
I should just stop myself there first, not sure if I'm saying that correctly... Proud of Nigerian ke! 🙄 Maybe I am though... Just maybe.
One thing I've noticed about my beloved country is what we eat sometimes, how we eat them and where we choose to eat them...
You can use your imaginations or from past knowledge but I'll share some that you will surely see if you visit here (for those outside the country) and you'll affirm to them (for my fellow citizens).
I've stayed with a number of families and I've come to the conclusion that some people just like looking crazy while eating and that can only happy when the meal is super spicy and delicious.
Imagine the two going together... You want to stop eating because it's too spicy but you can't stop because it's too delicious.
My siblings and I had once stayed with a lady who loves spicy foods a lot, she would prepare one of our most eaten kind of rice (Jollof rice and sometimes oil rice) just a few cups of the rice with lots of pepper in it.
While the aroma is wonderful and calling out the names of everyone who perceived it, the taste kills really fast literally. Just a spoon of the food in your mouth and you'll start doing incantations as if you joined a shrine recently.
I don't know why we Nigerians just chose to punish ourselves that way but I did enjoy living like that until I was medically advised against it 😏 so I'm not one of those spicy Nigerians anymore.
There was this man I lived with sometime ago, he was very old and lived alone until my aunt took us to go live with him. I must confess that it's not easy to live with old people especially the ones who become unstable mentally.
We had a hard time adjusting to living with him but with time, it got used to us and we realized how much fun it is to being with him. One thing about this man is that "He never tastes salt in any meal he's given" and that is because he wants to add more raw salt to his meals.
He will like "Salt is not enough in this food, bring the sat container for me" and as if you're watching a food show, you will see him pouring salt into his meal as if he is just starting to prepare it.
Until we left his place, we always took his food to him along with small container of salt. I'm guilty of this sometimes because I do add tiny salt to my meals if it wasn't enough when I prepared it. Medically, this is unwise but some Nigerians has refused to agree with that.
I'm one of the most guilty in doing this 😂 like I hate eating meals that has no meat pieces in it because I love taking meat along with every swallow I take or any spoonful... Eating is more enjoyable that way.
Maybe my dad allow that to get used to me because he also loves to prepare meals with plenty pieces of meat. I don't know if you know what we call swallow (for the non - Nigerians) but it's one of the meals where I enjoy taking pieces of meat along.
I have once done that habit in a meal that had a strong rule "Don't take any meat until we share it" which I violated proudly because I was very sure I wasn't going to get caught but then something happened 😩
The meat I took happened to be a bony part and it got stuck in my throat. As I was choking and trying to get rid of the bone from my throat, the others understood what had happened and helped me out... I didn't get a share of the fleshy meat anymore 😏
Sitting on the floor even when there is table to eat, is another eating style that my country people love to do (I'm not innocent of this either). Eating food from pot is another style, sometimes this is done so we don't have to wash many dishes.
There are other eating styles we exhibit that I still find funny but we are not planning to stop doing them anyways. It's what makes us different and fun people.
This is my entry for The COMedy Rumble and I'll like to invite @otuyanancy and
@khaleesii to participate.
