Turn Off Your Self-Defense Mechanism

Turning off our self-defense mechanism is one of the best way for us to stop lying to ourselves. We are naturally built to defend our views when we think it's the right choice or want to think it is the right choice. Funny enough, we can also do this to ourselves 😂. True, we can fight our own thoughts, I'm pretty sure we all have done this. You know you did something that is wrong, and you are talking to yourself in your mind, that you didn't. You will say, "C'mon it's not my fault" and you are seeing evidence proving that you are the one in fault. Common mind reply "It's me against the world" 😅. We are built that way, to defend our mistakes or our opinions. But we should try and be true to ourselves and stay objective to ourselves as that will help us become a better version of ourselves.

We just have to turn off our self-defense mechanism in order to stop lying to ourselves and be true and real with ourselves. It is when you are true and real to yourself that's when you will know areas where you need to improve upon. We humans, tend to defend ourselves most times because of our pride. Pride has led to the downfall of so many great people, so don't make pride ruin your objectivity of some matters. Turning off our self-defense mechanism, is quite difficult but a must if we want to become better version of ourselves. For instance, you failed an exam, instead of accepting the fact that you didn't prepare adequately for the exam and prepare adequately for the next exam, you defend yourself. Most of us, will start defending ourselves, saying "The lecturer is a sadist, he most likely failed me", "It was raining, so the weather was too cold for me to think properly", "The lecturer didn't teach us those areas", "I'm sure the lecturer didn't mark my papers well" and so on. The ability to see things objectively and accept that you are a wrong when you are wrong, requires a lot of courage. And once you are able to see things objectively, you will be able to stop lying to yourself, hence, you are on your way to becoming the best version of yourself.
