I'm having a hard time taking Trump's administration seriously. They might say things that sound good, feel good, but sometimes their actions show they actually believe the opposite.
Exhibit a:
Listen, I'm not defending the destruction of property or anything adjacent to such a thing. There are laws in the book for that, and anyone defending arson should really do some soul searching, but this doesn't mean this is not a slippery slope.
The conditional funding, the threat, is handed out like the most complex of IKEA builds with no instructions. It's up to you to figure it out, but you better not mess up.
Some of the MAGA members were quick to inform us "libtards" (nothing could be further from the truth), that all you have to do is get a permit, and all is good. In other words, get permission to protest and protest all you want.
There is absolutely no way that's going to curtail free speech at all, yes, they are right. All people have to do is get a permit. Why didn't I think of that?
I mean, it's not like the government would say, non publicly of course, "Don't you dare allow pro Palestine protests or else", to a college or something. They would never go that far, they've shown us their commitment to free speech so many times.
If these actions don't show unwavering commitment for the first amendment then I don't know what does.
I'm so glad free speech is back.
