I don't mean to be insensitive to anyone's belief system, but this whole thing is a nothing burger to me. Which is to say, that I could not care less about a rapper making Satanic Shoes with real human blood. That being said, the reaction and the pearl clutching is working just as he planned.
It's obvious to me that Lil Nas X was looking to go viral, and he sure has done so. There's a video along with this release that depicts the devil and him getting kinky.
To get my opinion on the specifics out of the way. Do I find it offensive? No, I find it childish. Do I think it should be banned? Not at all. People should be allowed to be stupid. Will this doom humanity? Only if you believe in magic and fairy tales enough.
Again, this is nothing but a publicity stunt. Apparently Lil Nas X hired a marketing firm that specializes in going viral, and they sure have delivered. He so viral an old soul like me, someone who listens to Pink Floyd and somewhat refuses to update, now knows about Lil Nas X.
So how did the stunt work? You may ask. Well, the conservative movement on social media made sure everyone knew about Lil Nas X's newest "artistic" expression. In other words, the Christian voices online worked for Lil Nas, they elevated him. Now, if that's not ironic, I don't know what is.
Do I think soon he will go away? Probably. But it makes no difference to my personal life. He's getting sued, he's gotta deal with Nike now for using their shoe. But, somehow I doubt it will crush him too hard.
As far as the song goes: It's the kind of generic stuff an old soul like mine does not understand nor desire to understand. Autotune, count me out.
Closing note on this... They sold out. Yes, all the shoes are sold out.
Great Job conservative Twitter, I say.
