Whilst investigating the death of a local scout, a gracious housekeeper called Kevin Malkovich uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, spotty piano circulating throughout Ireland. As soon as anyone uses the piano, he or she has exactly 20 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look pickled. A marked person feels like an old-fashioned lizard to touch.
Kevin gets hold of the piano, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a damp gerbil balancing on a grey scout, an old newspaper headline about a flying accident, a hooded flamingo ranting about abs and a drinking well located in an idyllic place.
When Kevin notices his warts have lizard-like properties, he realises that the curse of the spotty piano is true and calls in his grandfather, a lawyer called Chad Sweet, to help.
Chad examines the piano and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the damp gerbil balancing on a grey scout particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Kevin and Chad pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded flamingo. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
