The Baltimore Orioles have returned this week and I am surprised again that I have forgotten just how brilliant their colors are.

They arrive in bunches, although only some will remain and nest here. The rest will continue their migration to points further north.

The grape jelly that is in the feeder is a favorite treat.

Young male Baltimore Orioles do not molt into bright-orange adult plumage until the fall of their second year, and are difficult to tell from the females.

We have record low temperatures predicted this week, so I hope they don't regret their decision to return.
