A pow-wow is a social gathering for Native American tribes all across North America. At these gatherings there will be drums and singing of songs handed down from generation to generation.
Most pow-wows are held annually to commemorate an event or to honor veterans of the armed forces. In Wisconsin there are 11 tribes and several pow-wows through out the year.
A traditional pow-wow will focus mainly on social dances and honor songs of the hosting tribe, a contest pow-wow will add contests for singers and dancers.
If you hear of a pow-wow, consider yourself invited.
Bring your camera and do not turn down an offer of food or drink or an invitation to dance!
