Years ago when gardening was first becoming more difficult for me, I planted a bunch of perennials. Some needed more care than I have been able to give them, but the clematis that I planted have thrived and are providing me with some bright spots of color around the yard.
This jackmanii clematis is popular and probably the most familiar one. It's violet/purple blooms are rather spectacular.
I planted this josephine clematis near the front door. It took a few years for it to bloom, but now that it is blooming, it grabs a lot of attention.
I planted two of these Henryi clematis vines, one on each side of the steps that lead up to the deck. One blooms nicely, once in June and then again in August. The other seldom blooms. They receive the same care/neglect, so I haven't been able to discover what the difference is. The large white blooms with the burgundy centers are quite lovely, though.
This Nellie Moser variety, with it's pink blossoms has just begun to bloom, but in the past it has been beautiful. It seems happy and tries to spread in every direction.
I am glad each year that I chose to plant them!
