One of my favorite insects is a bumblebee (Bombus species) Bumbles are exceptionally gentle and calm and rarely sting unless squeezed or stepped on. Male Bumbles don't even have a stinger.
This bumblebee was in a small flower garden near the sidewalk enjoying the zinnas and gladiolus that were planted there.
After reaching adulthood, male bumblebees don't return to the nest. During the summer you can often find them sleeping soundly inside large blossoms—like zinnias and dahlias, waiting for the morning sun to warm them up.
