House finches are quite common across much of the US. They stay all year round and are regular guests at my feeder, eating their favorite black oil sunflower seeds.
Their long twittering song is cheery, as is their rosy red coloring.
For the past several years there has been a pair that build their nest in the spring, above the porch light next to my front door. They don't seem bothered by people coming and going.
Even on the coldest days they can be found brightening up my backyard.
