Thanksgiving is this week in the US and it is one of the heaviest traffic days of the year as people travel to be with family and friends to celebrate the national holiday.
My family will be here and we will celebrate with a traditional feast with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie! And a multitude of various sides! My son intends to cook our 22 pound turkey out on the grill. The forecast predicts warmer temps and little chance of rain.
Before we begin eating we go around the table and everyone shares something they are grateful for. It's a day to count your blessings!
It seems every US President since the beginning of the nation has proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving, but it wasn't until 1941 that President Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating the fourth Thursday in November (which is not always the last Thursday) as Thanksgiving Day.
The TV gets turned on in the morning to watch the annual Macy's parade in New York City with huge balloons, and marching bands from all over the nation.
Then, after dinner comes the traditional American football game. Even though our favorite team is not playing, the tradition of football on Turkey Day has been a part of my life since I was a small child.
Houses and shops around town have a few seasonal decorations.
We haven't all been together since we had my deck painting party in September, so. I'm really looking forward to my family being together!
Oh, and I need to remind everyone to bring containers for leftovers, because I am certain that we will have some for them to take home!
